Is anyone else wondering whether signing Peyton Manning for $96 Million is a big gamble? Sure, Manning has huge credentials and a Superbowl ring, but after sitting out the year and rehabbing from multiple surgeries, you’d hate to find out in week 1 when the real hits start coming, that your basket is mangled and all of the eggs you put into it are oozing through the sides.
I don’t think you can fault the Broncos for the result of the signing which sent Tim Tebow packing. While the Tebowmania craze was awesome, I always felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s probably best that the Broncos found an upgrade at quarterback, because I always felt that Tebowmania couldn’t last. Better to let it go out on a high note, than see it flounder in 2012.
While signing Peyton Manning for a 5 year $96 Million contract is a big risk, the upside is tremendous, and is certainly an upgrade over Tebow. Let’s hope Peyton has in fact fully healed and that some of the Mile High Magic that surrounded Tim Tebow stays with the Broncos. If it does, maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see a Superbowl champion next year.
